How Often Should You Get Your Windows Cleaned? A West London Homeowner's Guide for 2026 — Syon Cleaning blog

London's air quality has improved since the ULEZ expansion, but PM2.5 still settles on every external surface within 48 hours of a clean. The right cleaning frequency depends on your road's traffic level, whether you've got large overhanging trees, and how visible your front elevation is to passers-by. Here's the schedule we recommend across TW1–TW10 and SW13–SW18.

By road type

  • Main road (A-road, B-road frontage): every 4 weeks externally
  • Quiet residential side street: every 6 weeks externally
  • Cul-de-sac or rear-access only: every 8 weeks externally
  • Detached property with no neighbours within 30m: every 8–10 weeks
  • Mews or courtyard property (no road traffic): every 10–12 weeks

By feature

  • Sash windows (original or restored): every 6 weeks — putty needs gentle care, more frequent visits avoid build-up
  • Conservatory roof glass: every 12 weeks externally; every 6 months internally
  • Skylights and Velux: every 12 weeks
  • French doors / patio sliders: every 8 weeks
  • Bay window with multiple panes: every 6 weeks (more surface area)

Internally

Indoor air carries cooking grease, dust and skin cells that bind to glass over weeks. Internal cleaning every 3–6 months is enough for most homes. Kitchens should be cleaned more often (every 6–8 weeks); studies and reading rooms can stretch to 6 months. Always do internals on the same day as externals — looks 3x better than half-and-half.

Annual must-do jobs

  • Window frame deep clean (timber): once a year, oil the bottom rail
  • uPVC frame brightening: once a year, removes yellow oxidation
  • Sash runner re-waxing: once a year
  • Internal sill paint touch-up: every 2–3 years
  • Conservatory rafter dust: once a year (we do this on the regular plan)

Subscription pricing in 2026

Pay-per-visit: £40–£70 per clean for a typical 3-bed in TW. Subscription customers (every 4 or 6 weeks) save 15% on the per-visit rate and get a 'rain-back' guarantee — if it rains within 24 hours of cleaning, we re-clean affected windows free. Most customers settle on 6-weekly externals + 6-monthly internals, total £45–£75 per visit.
